2014 Video Music Awards Performance Recap

This post is about two days overdue, but I need to give my opinion on this year's VMA's. Like last year's VMA's I have to admit that there were pretty much a few dull moments in the show until the end of the show. However, this year the award show was all about Beyonce of course. Before I can even speak on her performance, I do have to acknowledge some of the great performers that came before the big finale.
The award show opened up with Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj and Jessie J performing "Bang Bang". Before the trio performed their collaboration, Nicki and Ariana both performed tracks from their upcoming projects.
Another great performance from that night was Sam Smith. He performed his song "Stay With Me", and definitely displayed why simplicity is sometimes the best route to go. I must admit I do not know much about Sam Smith, but I did hear nothing but amazing things. After his live performance I was blown away and had to purchase his album. Needless to say, you guys can expect a new Artist Spotlight post coming soon.
Other than Beyonce, I have to say those were my favorite performances from the night. I was fortunate enough to attend both the Mrs. Carter Show and the On The Run Tour so there were some numbers that I did see. However, Queen Bey performed her entire self-titled album and literally brought tears to my eyes. Everything that she does musically and performance wise is such as inspiration to many. What made everything more special was watching Jay-Z and Blue Ivy present her with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.

Chris Brown Making A Strong Comeback

The year is not quite over yet, but 2014 has been yet another year where Chris Brown has faced some of the lowest points within his life. One of those key points would have to be attending rehab and then spending over a month in jail. Nonetheless, when it comes to making a strong comeback Mr. Brown definitely knows how to do so. Then again should we even consider this a comeback? All while going through his legal issues Chris was very much relevant musically as he had singles such as "Loyal", "Show Me" and "Main Chick" on our local radio stations.

Right after his performance at this years BET Awards he released his latest single "New Flame" featuring Usher and Rick Ross. Recently the official music video for the single was released and it looks like he definitely has yet to miss a beat. Aside from his new video, Chris revealed the new official release date for his new project X after previous failed attempts to release the album. With his album releasing on September 16th and his upcoming tour with Trey Songz, things are definitely looking up for Chris Brown and I couldn't be more happier for him.

Summertime Music

The summer is not quite over yet, but the end is pretty much near. If there is anything that takes you back to any summer experience it would have to be the music that was out around that time. This summer there were a few songs that were constantly played on my local radio stations that has definitely made this past summer memorable.

Check out some of my favorites below:

Chris Brown ft. Lil Wayne & Tyga "Loyal"

This track has been out way before the summer officially began, but it's popularity definitely grew throughout the summer. Chris Brown even performed this track at this years BET Awards, as it was his first comeback performance after being released from jail. The track is expected to appear on his upcoming album X, which has been given a new release date of September 16th.
