Artist Spotlight: Brianna Perry

This post is way long overdue, months ago I had the idea of doing a post on Brianna Perry as I thought of new artist to feature for this here blog. Now that her new show Sisterhood of Hip Hop will soon debut on Oxygen, now just seems to be the perfect time then ever.

I first heard of Brianna Perry as few years back on 106 & Park when Terrence and Rocsi were still hosts on the show. The music video for her single "Fly Kicks" was the new joint of the day and it was her rap delivery that attracted me to her artistry. For quite some years now there has been talks of the lack of female presents in rap music. When it came to naming artist and nominating the best female rappers at award shows the only female that seemed to be representing was Nicki Minaj.

However, after seeing Brianna on 106 & Park, I checked out some of her music and even more of her videos on worldstar. The Miami native has been in the music game for quite some time, in fact she first stepped into the recording booth before the age of 10. Being from Miami she has been surrounded by many of the big name artists from the area, such as Trina and Trick Daddy. She even attracted the attention of Missy Elliot and spent some time under her wing as she developed into the artist that she is today.

In the past few years she has released a total of 6 mixtapes with Symphony No. 9: The B Collection being the last mixtape. Now we'll get to see her on our television screens along with four other up and coming female rappers on Oxygen's new show Sisterhood of Hip Hop.

If there is one thing that stands out to me when it comes to Brianna, it is the fact that after all of these years within the music industry she has managed to remain up to par with her education. She recently graduated from the University of Miami with a degree in Business. This just goes to show it is possible to balance both education and career and still come out on top with both.

Check out more when you continue. . .
