Favorite Artist of 2011

As the end of the year approaches, everyone and their mother likes to recap their favorites of the year. Therefore it's only right that I recap my favorites of the year. Last year I did the top songs of the year, but as this year comes to an end I feel that the artists deserve more of the spotlight, opposed to just one song alone. I have constructed two list this year, the first list being the top 5 artist of 2011 and the best new artist of 2011.

#1
The first top artist of the year has to go to Frank Ocean. I cannot lie I didn't know about him until everyone else found out about him, which is when his hit "Novacane" started hitting the airwaves, but once he captured my attention he has been able to keep my attention. He is not only a singer, but a well known writer as well. In 2011 he was able to increase his fan base by putting out his mixtape nostralgia, ULTARA, not only that but he has a few hits on some of the biggest albums of the year (Watch the Throne & 4). He hasn't released his debut album yet, but I know it's coming in 2012.

#2
The next on my list is Rihanna, I've never been a die hard Rihanna fan, but I do have to give credit when it is due. She has been working NON STOP, this entire year. She entered the year just dropping her 5th studio album Loud, in November 2010, following the release of the album she began her Loud Tour. Where she toured both the United States and overseas. In the mist of her tour she was able to release her 6th studio album Talk That Talk. So I know when the new year begins she'll be right back on tour. Her work ethic has contributed to making her one the most top selling artist of this year, and I'm sure for years to come.

#3
Beyonce has had the biggest year in both her career and within her personal life as well. She released her 4th studio album 4 after she took off a year to just enjoy her life. She came back with the her first single "Run The World (Girls)" and basically owned the rest of the year, by releasing non stop videos, doing non stop promo tours, doing several shows and even releasing several behind the scenes clips to show others the work it takes to complete the final product that we all know and love. However, the icing on the cake is when she revealed her pregnancy at the 2011 VMA's. So I know that no matter what she's doing she is going to own it. I know within the new year she'll be a new mommy, and she'll possibly release her 5th studio album since there are rumors that she has already started working on it.

#4
Now Adele is no new artist, however this year she has had the biggest year in her career. In 2011 Adele released her 2nd studio album 21, and the album consists of a lot of heart felt tracks, such as "Rolling In The Deep", "Turning Tables" and "Someone Like You". I personally have seen Adele touch certain people that I thought I would never see listen to her music just because I know they've never been into her music in the past. However, she made it possible to reach a new audience with her amazing vocals. Unfortunately Adele had to take the rest of the year off due to a hemorrhage on her vocal cords. Once she fully recovers she'll begin working on her next album, I just hope all of the people who supports Adele now will be true fans and support her in the new year.

#5
It's only right that Chris Brown made the top 5 because he just did the damn thing this year. He had a great 2010 after her bounced back from the whole Rihanna situation, but this year he was just in full force. This year he released his 4th studio album FAME, and had a successful mixtape Boy In Detention. Not to mention he went on the FAME Tour, where he was joined by TYGA, T-Pain and Bow Wow. Chris gave amazing performances at the BET Awards and the VMA's. He basically spent his year at the top, and I'm not interested in seeing him at the bottom again, with that being said I am looking forward to the release of his 5th studio album Fortune, and any other venture he is about to endeavor.

Not Saying I'm Rihanna Navy, But. . .

I'm not saying that I'm Rihanna Navy, but these past few months I've come to my senses and started listening to more of Rihanna's music like I used to when she first hit the industry. I kind of find some similarities between her and I. I'm not saying that I'm complete rebel and I do what I want. I have however loosened up these past few years and expressed myself more than I have ever done before. Not to mention some of her music that she has been making I can some what relate to. I also think that Rihanna is such a great artist and has such a wondeful fan base for someone who is not a top notch vocalist like artist such as Beyonce or Jennifer Hudson. Nonetheless she's been able to sell her product (her music) to her audience with the voice that she has. That kind of motivates me in some kind of way, but I still need to improve my voice. However, I still hope I get somewhere within the new year. Ever since Rihanna started promoting her latest album Talk That Talk, I've been interested in the tracks released so far. With "You Da One" being my favorite, I think I'm gonna use my Christmas money to purchase her album.

Jessie J: "Casualty Love"

I don't want to sit here and say I've been sleeping on Jessie J because I've been aware of her talent from the first time I heard "Price Tag" this past summer. I even did a post on her. Although I haven't been sleeping, I haven't been paying enough attention to her. This afternoon someone posted a video of her singing her song "Casualty Love" (the acoustic version) on Facebook and all I thought was "why I don't know this song". Not to mention she was singing the hell out of the song, so it only made me question even more. Although I kind of feel a little ashamed that I am just now finding out about this song I don't feel too bad. I enjoy the feeling of "oh I didn't know" more than the feeling of "I already knew that". Especially when it comes to music because I love when I learn something new everyday. To end this story, I put the song on my iPod and I've been listening to it ever since.

New Music: "Walk Away"/ "Last Heart Standing"

I have to say my favorite part of doing this blog is introducing you all to new music. Right now I am proud to introduce you all to Olivia's new single "Walk Away". You all may know Olivia formally of G-unit (I don't even know if the group still exist), she is now an independent artist looking for a deal. Those of you who may watch Love & Hip Hop on VH1 you have seen her struggle within the first two seasons with getting a new deal with a major label. Last season she had her first hit in awhile with "December", unfortunately that was not enough to get her signed, but it did catch attention of labels. You can see that take place in the current season of the show on VH1 (Mondays @9:00pm) . However, I am hoping that this new single would be the single to get her signed or get the support of a major label. I believe she is actually talented and she is one of the many who are actually talented and struggle with getting a deal. I remember in the first season of Love & Hip Hop she said something about "slitting her throat if she could not be able to sing". She didn't mean it literally, but I understood what she meant because I share mutual feelings. That's just another form to express passion, I think that's why I quit hundreds of times and cry constantly because it's something that you really want. All in all I'm rooting for Olivia to succeed, and I hope you are too. If not, I hope your mind is changed after hearing this track.

Here is Olivia singing the song for a showcase for Universal Records

The next new song comes from JoJo. About a few months ago I posted a new song from her entitled "The Other Chick" which is believed to be off of her upcoming album Jumping Trains. I don't know if her new song "Last Heart Standing" will be part of that album, but I do believe that it would because the concept of the song matches with the other tracks that have been out such as "The Other Chick". As well as "Disaster", which is her official first single and the video is currently out. Nonetheless JoJo continues to display wonderful vocals after all of these years, and I am sure that whenever her new album drops she'll have great numbers her first week because her voice is just amazing. Hearing new JoJo music made me go back to my favorite JoJo song, which is "Not That Kinda Girl" off of her debut album. I like an artist who can make music and take me to happy places. With that being said I'm ready for JoJo.

New Music: "Spent"

I absolutely love when I find out about new artist with amazing music. This weekend I was fortunate enough to learn about a new artist named Daley from Manchester, England. He spent his teenage years in his bedroom perfecting his craft and recording, he has been inspired by artist such as Maxwell, Prince and Jill Scott. He moved to England last year at the age of 21 where he began to build a name for himself. He was able to catch the attention of the frontman of the Gorillaz (the band that no one knows what they look like because their videos are nothing but cartoon versions of themselves) Damon Albarn. Since then he has released a mixtape named Those Who Wait. One of the songs from the mixtape is "Alone Together" featuring Marsha Ambrosius. I love the soul that he has within his voice, this just makes me even more excited for him to get even more recognition. I will most definitely keep you guys posted on Daley.

Here is a video of Daley performing "Pretty Wings" by Maxwell

Rihanna: "Cheers"

This is the kind of lifestyle I'm working towards living one day, I pray to God that one day it does come true!

Keri Hilson's Third Album Prediction

While I was catching up on notes for school I entered a Keri Hilson mode and I began to think about what her next album would be like. This past week she visited 106 & Park and she confirmed that she would be hitting the studio soon to record her third album. She says that she has so much she needs to let out and she will be expressing it through her music, and some people might not even like her next album. That just made me even more excited for her new album to come out. She is still contemplating whether not she should do another video from her sophomore album No Boys Allowed. That's when I began screaming "Beautiful Mistake" at the television because that's my favorite song on the entire album. Looking back on both her debut and sophomore albums she has done an incredible job over all. I love her first album In A Perfect World because that of course was her introduction to the entire world. That album had nothing but good songs, and her vocals were amazing. Her second album No Boys Allowed, wasn't as good as her debut album then again  an artists best work is always there first album because that's what helps them gain their fan base. I'll admit that I didn't like all the songs on the album, but I like the attitude of the entire album. After Keri's comment regarding her third album I'm more anxious than ever, I wonder if she'll address the haters that constantly give her neck. I myself personally go on blogs and see people talking badly about her, but yet she's still featured on their blog *coughs theybf.com*. Only time will tell, I hope she lives within the studio for the next few months so the album can get here quicker.

New Music: "Seek & Destroy"/ "Do It Like You"

The first new song comes from my current favorite singer on Roc Nation Bridget Kelly. Her new single "Seek & Destroy is off of her new EP Every Girl. She wanted to give her fans a preview of her music before she dropped her debut album sometime next year. The song was written and produced by The Dream. For the real music fans it's not really hard to tell what songs are written by The Dream, it's like it puts his official stamp on all of the music he does. The song is about letting a guy know that if you get with him he better not fuck up because then there will be consequences to pay. It's better off warning guys because not all surprises are good ones. If your interested in downloading her EP go to her website http://www.bridgetkelly.com/ to get the official downloading link. "YOU BETTA NOT FUCK THIS UP" LOLS

The next new single comes from Diggy Simmons, who is currently on the Scream Tour. His second single "Do It Like You" ft. Jeremih. Diggy in my opinion has yet another hit on his hands and is just proving to others that he deserves his deal with Atlantic. The song is like any other typical track from a teenager, as he expresses the kind of girl that he wants. Letting her know that there is no other, because there is obviously no one that can do it like you ( referring to the girl he is speaking about in the song).

New Music: "Make Me Proud"/ "Still Got It"

The month of November is almost here and two of Young Money's biggest rappers are gearing up to release their sophomore albums. The first new song comes from Drake off of his upcoming album Take Care, which will be released November 15th. I can honestly say there has not been one track that Drake has released and it has not been a hit. His new track "Make Me Proud" featuring Nicki Minaj is so Young Money and it just makes his new album even more highly anticipated. He and Nicki recently performed this song live on SNL (Saturday Night Live) and there seems to be even more chemistry between the two then there has ever been before. He recently said in an interview with Elle Magazine that he would actually marry Nicki. I wish these two would just officially hook up, I find them to be so cute together.

The next new song comes from the love of my life TYGA. His sophomore album is also scheduled to be released next month on his 22nd birthday, November 19th. His new album Careless World: The Last King, already features his first single "Far Away" and also his new song "Still Got It" featuring his Young Money label mate Drake. Drake's feature on this track just makes the song even better, I cannot wait for the month of November to get here.

Elle Varner ft. J Cole- "Only Wanna Give It To You"

I do not know her, but I already love her. I love this song, I love her style, I love this video and I love that she  is one with a unique soulful voice. I will soon return for a post on Elle Varner once I educate myself, but in the meantime make sure you guys vote her video on the countdown on 106 & Park because to me once you make it there, you basically can make it anywhere. I love that she made a comparison of wanting a new pair of shoes to wanting this one specific guy, I have felt that way several times.

9/11: 10 Years Later

I want to keep this really short. I'm just acknowledging the 10 year anniversary of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in lower Manhattan. I know many of my readers don't know this about me, but I lost my mom that day. She was a manager at a company in one of the buildings. I really wish I would of gotten to see her one last time that day. Although I believe I'd get stronger each year I realized thats something impossible & I will never get over it & it only gets harder each year. I want my mom to know that I love her & everyday I wish she was here with my brothers and I today. All I can do is pray and ask God to let her continue to rest in peace.

This was my moms favorite song:

New Music: "Radio"/ "Can't Get Enough"

People we now have a new song from Cassie, not sure if there is an album to follow. Since we have been waiting for a follow up album since she dropped her debut album back in 2006. She does a really great job at keeping a deal and releasing no album. However this weekend a new single entitled "Radio" from the beautiful and talented Cassie has been released. This song is to appear on Bad Boy's new mixtape The Preview. The song is about Cassie hearing various songs from legendary artist such as Mary J Blige and TLC on the radio warning about the troubles a guy can bring within a relationship. People will be able to get a taste of the kind of music they can expect to hear from the label from this upcoming mixtape. Since Bad Boy was moved from Atlantic Records over to Interscope Records the only albums that have really been released were Janelle Monae's debut album, and Diddy Dirty Money's debut album. None the less it's still good to hear new music from Cassie. I was beginning to think "Official Girl" (my favorite Cassie song) was going to be the last song I heard from Cassie. Hoping to hear more new music and see her in more magazines real soon.

The next new song comes from Roc Nation rapper J Cole. He is preparing to release his highly anticipated debut album Cole World: The Sideline Story. His first single "Workout" has been doing well and the music video was recently released. Now his second single has been leaked. His new single "Can't Get Enough" features Trey Songz, and I must say this song is yet another hit. All I can say is I see platinum in his future really really soon. His debut album comes out September 27th, so you guys make sure you support REAL rap music.

Top 5 Moments from the 2011 MTV VMA's

I know I'm a day or two late, but I thought that it would be cool for me to share the top five moments I considered to be the best from this years VMA's. I think there are some people who may agree with me when I say that the VMA's haven't been too exciting these past few years. However after what went down Sunday at the Nokia Theatre, MTV is making it's way back to the good days when the VMA's were exciting.

#1
The first best moment from the night was Beyonce announcing her pregnancy. Before the show even began it was all about her. No matter who was on the stage everyone wanted to see her and her baby bump. Many people had waited several years for her to get pregnant. After false rumors in the past many people just never put too much hope into it. However when she arrived on the carpet everyone's jaws dropped and  they were just so happy for her. Even Jay-Z's facial expression after her performance was priceless. Not too mention she had on these really high heels and was moving like she wasn't four months pregnant. I also think she did a great job at keeping her pregnancy a secret because she just did 4 shows in New York where she wore these small fitted dresses and no one suspected anything. So those celebrities who want to keep their pregnancy a secret from the public needs to take lessons from Beyonce.

#2
The next best moment goes to Chris Brown. Although he was lip syncing he still had such an amazing performance. He was flying and doing all kinds of flips in the air. With all that he did it was understandable why he didn't sing live. Still it had to be considered one of his best performances of his career.

#3
Adele performed for the first time at the VMA's, those words alone are enough said.

#4
Lady Gaga makes the list because ever since she hit the scene everyone always became curious as tho what she would wear. This first thing that would be said when the camera would come on is "I wonder what Lady Gaga is gonna wear". This year she was opening up the show so people became more curious. However this year she did the opposite of what everyone expected. Instead of doing something thirty blocks from the box she decided to go simple and dress as the guy from her "You & I" music video. Not to mention she stayed that way for the entire night. So even going simple and Gaga still turns heads. Plus her acting skills are worth two thumbs up.

#5
The last moment goes to Jessie J. She has officially gone down in my book as a real performer. Despite having a broken leg she still did not let the chance of performing at the VMA's go to waste. She still glammed up and sung the entire show. Many people didn't even know who she was, but after she displayed wonderful vocals the entire night. I'm sure the question, who is Jessie J? Will never come up again.

New Music: "Try"- Frank Ocean

I literally heard this song ten minutes ago and had to post because I like it just that much. A new track from Def Jam singer/songwriter Frank Ocean has been released on the internet and it's not confirmed on whether or not this track will appear on his debut album Nostalgia Lite. There is no official release date for the album as of yet, but I can say that it is highly anticipated after all the great music he has been writing for other artist such as Beyonce, Jay-Z and Bridget Kelly. I know I'm looking forward to more new music from Mr.Ocean, and I hope you are too.

R.I.P Aaliyah. . .10 Years Later

Today marks the 10 year anniversary of Aaliyah's death, and as a super fan it still hurts. Ten years ago today I remember coming back from an amusement park and hearing nothing but her music on the radio. Then I go inside to see that she had died in a plane crash. I instantly begin to bust into tears as if I had lost a family member. Growing up I loved to watch Aaliyah sing and dance at award shows and on music videos. So when   you realize someone like that is gone forever and is no longer coming back you can't do nothing but cry. I've mentioned before that Aaliyah is the one who inspired me to want to be a singer. She first inspired through dance, and that's when my second grade teacher began a dance group called the Baby Girl Dancers with a few of my friends and I. As I got older I became more interested in singing, and I realized that I wanted to grow up and be an amazing entertainer just like Aaliyah. Although I've experienced hard times lately, I'm still motivated to become a entertainer just as good as Aaliyah. Although today is the day we look back on her tragic death, today is also the day to celebrate her and what she has brought to us as an entertainer. She most definitely was one of a kind and ahead of her time. No artist has been able to achieve her level of greatness and never will.

Since today is Thursday it's only right that today's throwback song comes from Aaliyah:

This is the first song the Baby Girl Dancers danced to

New Videos: "Workout"/ Thinking About Forever"/ "Skyscraper"

This video is exactly how I imagined my entire summer, but it never happened.

I was so excited when this video came out because I wanted to here her sing it live & I must say her vocals are just wonderful. I really want to do a cover to this song, I've been practicing so hopefully I go through with it. I'll keep you guys posted (=

I'm so glad to see Demi Lovato again, and most of all I'm glad to see her doing music. Although I miss her show Sonny With a Chance on Disney Channel I know she needs to do whats right for her. The strength within this song comes straight through and inspires anyone to keep going despite other peoples wants. I also love that Demi is now one of the editors of Seventeen Magazine. So far I learned from her that "Love is Louder than the Pressure to be Perfect".

Throwback Thursday: Goapele- "Closer"

For this weeks throwback song I decided to go with a more calming neo-soul feel. This weeks song is "Closer" by Goapele off of her album Even Closer, released back in 2002. I first heard this song in the movie Honey with Jessica Alba, Joy Bryanat, Romeo and more. I personally found the song to give a nice vibe to the scene in which it was featured. However I never really paid it no mind because in my mind I only viewed it as a song in a movie. Back then had I been more passionate about music like I am now I would of did some research and found out all that I needed to know. Better late then never I guess. Last night Goapele's performance of "Closer" aired on BET on the Mo'Nique Show. Thats when it took me back to when the movie was first released and all I could think was "AHHH, those were the good days". Goapele along with her family began their own label called Skyblaze Recordings to oversee her music career. In 2004 their label was picked up by Columbia Records for world distribution of her music. Artist like Goapele and Ledisi are inspirational because they don't wait to get signed to labels. They begin their own labels, sign themselves and make their careers happen on their own. Look at them now, that just makes me wanna begin my own label and I'm only seventeen. I think I'll call it PRINCESS DIARIES RECORDS ^_^

New Music: "Strip"/ "Headlines"/ "Thinking About Forever"

Back for another new music post, and once again Chris Brown gives the world more great music. Today his new single "Strip" featuring Kevin McCall hit the internet. The song is off of Chris Brown's new mixtape Boy In Detention. The mixtape will be released on Friday (Aug. 5th), so make sure yoy guys support Chris Brown and download the new mixtape.

The next new song comes from YMCMB's own Drake. The first single off of his sophomore studio album Take Care, is "Headlines". The album is expected to be released on October 24th. After making a big impact with his singles "Marvin's Room" and "Trust Issues", I'm sure that this album is going to be great like his debut album.

Last new song is entitled "Thinking About Forever" by Bridget Kelly of Roc Nation. Many people know her for singing with Jay-Z in a few live performances of "Empire State of Mind". The song was written by popular song writer and Def Jam recording artist Frank Ocean. The song was orignally entitled "Thinking About You". The demo of the song is also avaliable, it allows people to hear the difference, but yet the greatness that each artist brings to the track.

New Music: "Open Road (I Love Her)"

Chris Brown has a new record that has hit the internet this week entited "Open Road (I Miss Her)". I'm not sure on any information on this song. Appearently this song is yet another leaked track and may possibly be on his next album Fortune. However I leanred that he may do this song at this years VMA's, which I highly doubt. I don't know nothing, but all I know is this track is hot.

New Videos: "Body 2 Body"/ "Quickie"/ "Far Away"

Yesterday Ace Hood's new video for his third single "Body 2 Body" off of his third studio album Blood, Sweat, & Tears was released. When I first heard this song on the radio I already knew it would be another hit like his first two singles "Hustle Hard" and "Go N Get It". What made me love this song was Chris Brown's vocals on the chorus and bridge, and the beat itself. It kind of reminded me of Ace Hood's single "Ride or Die" featuring Trey Songz off of his sophomore album Ruthless. I began to like the song even more when the video was released yesterday because it's just something about Chris Brown that just makes you melt.

The next video comes from Miguel, his third single "Quickie" has become everyone's favorite. So the video soon became highly demanded. This single is from Miguels debut album All I Want Is You, which was released late last year.

The final video comes from Tyga, who is currently headling the Closer to My Dreams Tour. He just released another mixtape, Well Done 2. At the same time he is gearing up for his second studio album Careless World. "Far Away" featuring Chris Richardson is the first single off of that album and I expressed my like for the song in a new music post a few months ago. Now the video is finally here. The concept of the video is similar to the concept of his video for "Reminded" featuring Adele off of his mixtape Black Thoughts Vol.2. It makes me wonder who was Tyga's real life love that he lost some time ago.

Throwback Thursday: Ciara- "Like A Boy"

This weeks throwback song is "Like A Boy" from Ciara's sophomore album Ciara: The Evolution, which was released in December 2006. The video for this song was released in early 2007. I believe that this has to be one of Ciara's best videos because the dancing was just plain crazy. When I first seen the video I was literally left in awe. Ciara did an excellent job at displaying the result of a woman taking on a man's role. Now a days a lot of females do act like boys, causing a lot of males to be very sensative. I've witnessed it myself first hand. Lols! Ciara recently was able to get out of her deal with LaFace Records, and she is now signed to Epic Records.

Throwback Tuesday: Kelly Rowland- "Like This"

I don't know how this was possible, but I forgot to do a Throwback Thursday last week. Thankfully I have the perfect song to make up for it, not to mention it's Tuesday so it kind of goes hand in hand with the word throwback like Thursday does (because they all start with the letter "T" lols)

The throwback song for today is "Like This" off of Kelly Rowland's second studio album Ms. Kelly. The album was released back in 2007, with "Like This" as the leading single. It is personally my favorite Kelly Rowland song, and also one of her first big hits as a solo artist. The song was produced by popular producer Polow da Don, and the song features female rapper Eve. I say this song is the perfect song for the throwback of the day because today her third studio album Here I Am is now in stores. The album features her #1 single "Motivation" featuring Lil Wayne, and her second single "Lay It On Me" featuring Big Sean. Everyone make sure you go pick up a copy and support Kelly Rowland.

I thought I would also post a video of Kelly Rowland singing "Bad Habit" off of the Destiny Fulfilled album, this song is my favorite off of the entire album

R.I.P Amy Winehouse

I really hate when I have to do another R.I.P post, because I know once again the music world has suffered yet another lost of a great musician. This post in particular I kind of feel guilty for doing because it seems as though people are no longer important or worth mentioning until their actually dead. That is something that I  really hate about this world. Many know Amy Winehouse as the British singer with the beehive hair do, soulful melo voice, that sung about not attending rehab. However her music was more than that, those who knew more than one song from her knows that she expressed all of her trials and tribulations through her music. Like her song "Back to Black" for example. Although I never really mentioned Amy Winehouse on the regular I am still a fan. When someone has such an amazing voice, and actually does something great with it I am forever a fan. It's no secret that she was constantly in the media more for alcohol and drug abuse, opposed to her contribution to the music world. I mean she won five grammy's for her album Back to Black, and set the record for taking home the most grammy's by a female artist in one night back in 2007. I personally would have killed to get in the position she was in, sadly her life had to end only after 27 years. The cause of her death is currently still unknown, and some people are suspecting it to be a drug overdose. I don't know what it is, but my heart still goes out to her family because in the end a life was still lost. Regardless of all the negative I believe that respects should be paid and wishes of her finally resting in peace should be made. With that being said I wish that she is now resting in peace, and I know she for sure will not be forgotten.

New Music: "The Greatest"

One of the biggest teen stars Keke Palmer is back with a new single entitled "The Greatest". She is currently signed to Interscope Records. She is preparing to release her sophomore album, with the "The Greatest" and her other single "Walls Come Down" officially on iTunes for download. Both songs were also featured to this seasons Degrassi.
